Wildwoods Challenge - 10K/25K Trail-Run

                Director's Bio:

Let me begin by introducing myself; I am Ryanell Johnson, a Minnesota native whose love of running began about 25 years ago. I have participated in just about every form of endurance event there is: triathlons, road races (all distances), 24 hr mountain bike races and for the last several years trail/off-road running. I presently reside in Fosston, MN with my lovely wife of 19+ years; Barbara, three children ages 16, 13, and 10, two cats and loyal dog Gus. I am a two-time cancer suvivor who strongly believes that a healthy diet, consistant training regimen, along with the loving support and prayers of family, friends and community were essential to my recovery. Most of all, I want to express a deep and personal faith in my Lord and Saviour; Jesus Christ, through whom all things are possible.

Organizing a trail-running event had for some time been sort of a pipe-dream of mine until early winter of 2008 when my wife encouraged me to "take the bull by the horns" and bring this "little" dream to life. Hence, the idea of the WILDWOODS CHALLENGE was born. It took all of two seconds to figure out  where I wanted to hold this event. Itasca State Park has long been a place of "natural refuge" for myself and family. Being less than a hour's drive from our home, Itasca has become a convenient destination for all sorts of fun, family-friendly recreation involving: swimming, biking, exploring, etc... My first contact with a park official was by phone with Jody Popesh, Public Services Supervisor for the park. Jody from the get-go was enthusiastic and excited to provide assistance where needed, especially in facillitating the "Special Use Permit" in such a timely fashion. A BIG THANK-YOU!! to Jody and other park officials for your support.

In keeping with park rules and my own personal values, it is my desire to organize and conduct this event implementing so-called "green and eco-friendly initiatives" in an attempt to practice good stewardship for our natural resources. This implementation will not only require cooperation between park officials and myself, but amongst sponsors, race participants and volunteers as well. It is my hope and prayer that the WILDWOODS CHALLENGE will be a great success and become an annual destination event for endurance athletes and their families for years to come.

                                SEE YOU THERE!
